COACH GENE CADMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

We are pleased to announce the introduction of a new scholarship for Briarcliff High School students in honor of Coach Gene Cadman, who coached multiple sports at BHS from 1973-1992. Gene was a BHS student and class of 1969 graduate, went on to teach Physical Education at Todd Elementary School for 33 years and coached basketball, track and soccer at the high school over a 20-year period.

Gene, or "Coach" as he was best known, always said he had the best job in the world because he had gym class every day. He made all of his students feel special and his warmth and sense of humor was famous among both faculty and students. He was beloved by his students and team members, who fondly remember him and the impact he had on their lives.

Coach Cadman passed away in February 2022 due to complications from cancer.  To honor him and his coaching career, we have created the Coach Gene Cadman Memorial Scholarship to recognize BHS students each year who value and demonstrate some of the same principles that Coach Cadman did.

At the end of each school year, one BHS boy and girl will receive a Coach Gene Cadman Memorial Scholarship award, including a check for $1,000. The scholarship will be awarded to one senior male and one senior female student who: play one or more of the sports Coach Cadman coached (soccer, basketball and track), have a desire to pursue a career in wellness, and demonstrate sportsmanship "on and off the field." The names of each year's winners will be etched on the perpetual plaque that will hang outside the BHS gym -- honoring Coach Cadman, the important impact he had on the students he coached and his remarkable legacy.  

To support this new scholarship, we have launched a fundraising campaign for anyone who would like to join in honoring Coach Cadman and giving deserving BHS students who meet the above criteria recognition along with financial assistance.
